Redmond City Council passed Vision Zero last year, but pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries are on the rise. What can we do to change the path we are on? Our panel of Planners & engineers will explore how we can design safer streets. Learn about efforts to improve safety design guidelines at the Federal level. Learn how the statewide Department of Transportation Complete Streets Policy is being implemented across Washington. Finally, at the local level in Redmond learn about the Road Safety Plan and Level of Traffic Stress that will shape safer streets in Redmond.

He has worked over 30 years in the transportation engineering field focused on improving safety and accessibility for communities. Dongho was named, in error in his opinion, as 100 most influential people in Seattle with Sue Bird, Megan Rapinoe, and Russell Wilson in Seattle Met Magazine for movement. Dongho’s sports career highlight is driving a Zamboni during high school, which he considers as his “coolest” job ever! Celeste Gilman (she/her/hers) (Strategic Policy Administrator @WSDOT Active Transportation Division) Celeste Gilman is the Strategic Policy Administrator based in WSDOT's Active Transportation Division and has led the implementation of Complete Streets for state transportation projects since the passage of the new requirement in the Move Ahead Washington package. Celeste has held a number of roles at WSDOT, including Transportation and Land Use Policy Advisor and Deputy Director of the Regional Transit Coordination Division. Prior to joining WSDOT, Celeste led the University of Washington's award-winning sustainable transportation programs, helping Huskies choose to use non-drive alone modes for 80% of their trips to campus. Celeste has over twenty years of experience in sustainable transportation and has shared her expertise locally, nationally, and internationally. Zachary N. Howard (he/him) (Principal Multimodal Planner, Complete Streets (King and Snohomish) @WDOT) Zack Howard is a Principal Multimodal Planner leading WSDOT’s Complete Streets program in Snohomish and King counties. He began at WSDOT as a Transit Integration Planner in the Regional Transit Coordination Division. Prior to WSDOT, Zack led the University of Washington’s Commute Options team, providing products and services that encouraged sustainable commuting and transportation choices, and has also worked at PSRC and Commute Seattle. He began his career in transportation more than 15 years ago, cataloguing sidewalk ADA compliance for City of Bellevue with a laser-enhanced Segway scooter. Vangie P. Garcia (Transportation Planning & Engineering Manager @City of Redmond) Vangie P. Garcia is the City of Redmond’s Transportation Planning and Engineering Manager that leads the long-term transportation and strategic planning initiatives regarding the city’s transportation network. Prior to Redmond, Vangie worked in Transportation for the cities of Bellevue and Renton with a few years of consulting before that. With over 25 years of project management, program planning, and capital project delivery in local government, Vangie is passionate about helping get people to where they would like to go and improve quality of life for all.
