Concurrent Disorders: Ethics and Stigma in Borderline Personality Disorder and Substance Use Disorder
Presenter: Shawn Fisk, educator, facilitator and ON-BPD Board Member

Those who experience BPD know that there are levels of stigma created by discrimination around this disorder. Additional layers of stigma also occur when they co-experience substance use disorder. When discussing concurrent disorders, we often hear about service gaps in the system. But until now this focus has failed to identify what message those gaps send to people who experience them, and by what pathway they can escape prejudices. So...if dialectical behaviour therapy is so helpful, why can't we get some?
