A Place of Peace in a Time of War: St. George’s, Fredericksburg and the Civil War
John’s talk will focus on how the war impacted the citizens of Fredericksburg and the parishioners of St. George’s, and will address life in Fredericksburg and at St. George’s in the crosshairs of two giant armies. Topics will include:
• The gathering storm;
• A city uprooted;
• Combat in the streets;
• Worship during the war;
• The church as hospital, a city of wounded; and
• The aftermath: The town and St. George’s.
