This session will explore how misplaced is our collective obsession with the person at the top – the leader. Leaders are important, of course. But they are no more important than the two other components of the leadership system - followers and contexts. While the leadership industry continues to train its lens on single individuals, in fact, leadership is more complicated a process than this would suggest. Leadership is not rocket science. But, to lead wisely and well in the third decade of the 21st century requires an understanding of the importance of the other, that is, the follower - as well as of the complex and sometimes convoluted contexts within which necessarily leaders and followers both are situated.
