What is vascular surgery and why should I choose it as a career?
This webinar is aimed at medical students and junior doctors interested in a career in vascular surgery.

During this webinar, we aim to provide a personalised insight into the specialty of vascular surgery, which is often under-represented during medical school and in foundation training. We will bring you a trainee’s perspective of the specialty, with tips and tricks on how to succeed, with an overall aim to inspire a new generation of future vascular surgeons!

Rachael Forythe
Speciality Trainee in Vascular Surgery Scottish Training Programme
Rachael graduated from the University of Edinburgh in 2008, completing Foundation Training in Edinburgh and subsequently undertook Core Surgical Training in Bristol. She spent the first few years of higher speciality training on the South West London rotation, before returning to Edinburgh to complete a PhD in molecular imaging of AAA under the supervision of Professor David Newby. She is now a senior vascular registrar based in Edinburgh and Dundee. She is a member of the executive committees of the Rouleaux Club (the UK vascular trainees’ association), the Vascular & Endovascular Research Network (VERN), secretary of the International Working Group on the Diabetic Foot peripheral artery disease group, and helped write the 2019 guidelines on the management of patients with diabetic foot ulcers. Despite a full time clinical training post, she maintains an active interest in academic vascular surgery and is the trainee representative on the RCSEd vascular surgical speciality board.
Mr Ahmed Nassef
Ahmed Nassef is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon/Honorary Senior Lecturer based at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals Foundation NHS Trust. He is also Chair of the MRCS Committee and Council Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
