As an important part of preparation for the 4th Summit, we are now rolling out the APWF Webinar Series, aiming to provide the government officials of the 49 countries in Asia and the Pacific and practitioners in the world with an opportunity to learn and deep-dive into water and water-related issues highlighted from different perspectives.

AWDO 2020 and Financing Water Security and the SDGs in Asia and the Pacific
Overview:
The Asian Development Bank and Asia Pacific Water Forum released AWDO 2020 on 18 December 2020. AWDO 2020 provides a comprehensive national analysis of water security across Asia and the Pacific based on the five key dimensions of: 1- Rural Water Security, 2 - Economic Water Security, 3 - Urban Water Security, 4 - Environmental Water Security, and 5 – Water-Related Disaster Water Security. The Webinar will provide an overview of the findings and recommendations of the Asian Water Development Outlook (AWDO) 2020 report as well as present the report “Financing water security for sustainable growth in the Asia – Pacific region” that was prepared by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) as a basis for the chapter on finance along with OECD’s chapter on governance that are new additions to AWDO 2020. The Webinar will also raise the issue of financing the water SDGs in Asia and the Pacific for discussion with the audience.

He served as ADB Afghanistan Country Director from 2014-17 and joined ADB in 2003. He has led water operations in Central, South, and Southeast Asia including postings in Indonesia directing the water and climate change programs and Uzbekistan as head of project administration. He worked at the World Bank from 2000 to 2002 as a Water Resources Management Specialist. He is a member of the AGWA Strategic Advisory Council, GWP Technical Committee, and Advisor to the HELP. He has a PhD and MPP in Public Policy and MSc from the Energy and Resources Group from the University of California, Berkeley and a BA from Michigan State University. Dr. Xavier Leflaive (Leader of Resilience, Adaptation and Water Team, Environment Directorate @Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)) Xavier Leflaive leads the Team that works on Resilience, Adaptation to climate change and Water in the OECD Environment Directorate. Team’s work focuses on sharing best international practices for the design, implementation and financing of policies that contribute to managing water for sustainable development and to enhancing resilience and adaptation to a changing climate. On-going projects cover nature-based solutions, coastal zone management, climate resilient infrastructure, financing water and water quality. Xavier joined the OECD in 2004, and spearheaded work on environmental finance, environment-related innovation, and water. He coordinated the Recommendation of the OECD Council on water, which captures OECD policy guidance on the management of water resources, water supply and sanitation services, and water-related risks. He holds a PhD in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge, UK.
