The Sustainable Rangelands Roundtable’s web-based ranch sustainability assessment tool builds on a hardcopy sustainable ranch management assessment framework guidebook developed several years ago. The online assessment tool takes 15-20 minutes to complete and allows ranchers to quickly, easily, and voluntarily respond to assessment questions in 12 sections that address areas including soils, water, plants, animals, productive capacities, family resources, cultural resources, technical assistance, socio-economic aspects, business diversification, business planning, and succession planning.
A “score” is provided for each section and overall, based on each question that they answer. Ranchers can take this online assessment confidentially, and as frequently as they would like to, with the ability to refer back to past scores if they logged into the platform by providing an email address. Ultimately, regional comparisons will be possible. Ranchers who complete the assessment will receive a hardcopy of the guidebook with additional resources, as well as other practical items.
