Privacy Legislation in Alberta Webinar
Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) have a professional and ethical responsibility to practice within the relevant laws governing privacy and confidentiality of patient information. This means all LPNs have the duty to safeguard a patient’s personal and health information as well as respect a patient’s right to privacy. LPNs are ultimately responsible for determining and understanding which piece of privacy legislation helps fulfill this commitment.

This webinar, presented by the CLPNA’s Policy team, will discuss the following Alberta privacy legislation:
• Health Information Act or HIA,
• Personal Information Protection Act or PIPA, and
• Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act or FOIPP

Additionally, LPNs will learn how to identify when federal privacy legislation applies in place of provincial privacy legislation, including the
• Privacy Act, and
• Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act or PIPEDA.

This webinar includes a live Q&A with CLPNA representatives and can be used as part of continuing competence learning activities.
