Do you love Jane Austen? Have you been a lifelong fan of the Brontë sisters since reading "Jane Eyre" or "Wuthering Heights" in school? If so, this event is for you! Before the Brontës, there were the Porter sisters—Jane and Anna Maria Porter, contemporaries of Jane Austen who published 26 books between them, and ascended to global fame during their lifetimes. Unfortunately, history has not been kind to them; credit for the literary advances they made was given to their childhood friend, Sir Walter Scott, and the sisters eventually fell into obscurity. Now, with an exciting new biography, Guggenheim Fellow Devoney Looser reintroduces the world to these two pioneering geniuses in historical fiction. Looser will be in conversation with local luminary and Professor at Converse University, Dr. Erin Templeton. This event is free and open to all; simply register to attend!
