Pichia for Bio-Pharmaceutical Manufacturing

Description

There has been growing interest in Pichia for use in the production of biopharmaceuticals including: SARS CoV2 spike protein and RBD, antibodies and other proteins for medicinal purposes. New strains of Pichia offer the option for various glycosylation patterns other than the typical hyper-mannosylation seen naturally. Pichia has advantages in that it is relatively inexpensive, has high cell density and protein yields and is an efficient secretor of proteins.

Join Windshire and Dr. Blum from The Bioexpression and Fermentation Facility at the University of Georgia for this webinar. The UGA facility has extensive experience with production of proteins by Pichia including use of microfiltration for cell removal and ultrafiltration/diafiltration for concentration of products as well as working with proteins produced intracellularly. This presentation will provide a background for the use of Pichia and its applications in biopharma.

Dr. Blackwell has been a prominent industry consultant for over twelve years, working on a wide variety of CMC and quality issues for a broad range of companies, investors, and product types at all stages of the product life cycle. Prior to consulting, he held several senior positions in technical operations, manufacturing and process development at prominent operating companies. Dr. David Blum (Director of Bioexpression and Fermentation Facility (BFF) @University of Georgia) Dr. Blum is the director of the Bioexpression and Fermentation Facility (BFF). At the BFF, he and his team over the past 10 years have completed over 1,200 projects as well as 4,000 fermentations. Dr. Blum has coauthored 15 peer-reviewed articles and has presented his work at national and international scientific meetings. Dr. Blum received his Bachelor of Science and Ph.D. degrees in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from the University of Georgia. Dr. Blum previously worked for Diversa Corporation predominantly working on biomass conversion programs and the Luminase product line. Dr. Blum then joined Vanderbilt University Medical Center where his research focused on mammalian protein expression and antibody discovery. His research at Vanderbilt utilized a novel technology that generates monoclonal antibodies from human peripheral blood. Jen Bardsley (Moderator ) As Account Manager for the Windshire Group, Jen Bardsley is responsible for developing and managing client and consultant relationships.
