Mini Martinez (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fellow @National PTA)
Mini Martinez is a proud PTA member and is currently a National PTA Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Fellow. She has three children, one of who receives Exceptional Student Education services for a Specific Learning Disability in reading comprehension. Mini is a dedicated parent volunteer and passionate PTA leader whose work includes: PTA President and Secretary, Connections Mentor, Reading Acceleration Program Mentor, School Advisory Council member, and School District Equity Committee member. She believes in the potential of all children and advocates for equitable education and opportunities for all students.

Dr. Sheldon H. Horowitz (Senior Advisor @National Center for Learning Disabilities)
Sheldon H. Horowitz is the Senior Advisor of Strategic Innovation, Research &amp; Insights at the National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD). He provides leadership and oversight of key programs, and serves as an in-house expert on learning and attention issues to the NCLD and Understood teams.

Prior to his arrival at NCLD in 1996, Dr. Horowitz served as associate director of the Learning Diagnostic Center at Schneider Children’s Hospital, Long Island Jewish Medical Center in New Hyde Park, New York. Before that he was assistant unit chief, educational supervisor, and grand rounds chairperson of the Center for Mental Health, Department of Psychiatry at Interfaith Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Sheldon completed his master’s degree at Peabody College, Vanderbilt University, in Nashville, Tennessee, and holds a doctorate in learning disabilities from Teachers College, Columbia University, in New York, with a specialization in LDs and neurosciences in education.
