Psychiatry and Motor Manifestations in Autoimmune Encephalitis
Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) are increasingly recognized in children and adolescents. Psychiatric symptoms and movement disorders and may be the presenting symptom of AEs and are prominent manifestations during the disease course. In this webinar we will focus on the more frequently observed AE in young patients and particularly on NMDAR encephalitis. We will call attention to the warning signs pointing to autoimmune etiology in the presence of new onset psychiatric and motor symptoms, and on the issues related to treatment. Underscoring the need for an accurate assessment, and the knowledge of the potential side effects of antiepileptic and psychotropic drugs which could either mimic or worsen symptoms of encephalitis.
