He is the co-author of Silent Gesture: The Autobiography of Tommie Smith (Temple) and of Four Generations of Color, the autobiography of pioneering baseball scout and sports agent Miles McAfee. His recent work has appeared at ESPN’s Andscape (formerly The Undefeated), The Grio and the Washington, D.C. City Paper. Kevin Blackistone (National Sports Columnist @The Washinton Post) Kevin Blackistone is a longtime national sports columnist now at The Washington Post, panelist on ESPN’s “Around the Horn,” professor at the University of Maryland, co-producer and co-writer of an award-winning 2022 documentary on the history of and fight against mascoting Native Americans, co-author of a memoir by former NFL start Everson Walls and author of several academic journal articles on sports media. Toni Smith-Thompson (New York State Director @Drug Policy Alliance) Toni Smith-Thompson is the New York State Director of the Drug Policy Alliance, the leading organization in the U.S. promoting alternatives to the war on drugs. Prior to joining the Drug Policy Alliance, Toni worked in the Field Department of the New York Civil Liberties Union where, through community engagement and policy advocacy, works on campaigns to strengthen public education and advance racial justice, including efforts to move away from punitive and carceral responses to youth behavior and protect students’ First Amendment right to engage in protests. Shalise Manza Young (National Sports Columnist @Yahoo Sports) Shalise Manza Young is a national columnist for Yahoo Sports, a role she began in 2020. A working sports journalist since she was 17, Shalise wrote for the Providence Journal and Boston Globe, covering numerous sports before becoming New England Patriots beat writer. She joined Yahoo in 2015 and has also made numerous television, radio and podcast appearances. Her work has been awarded by the Associated Press Sports Editors and Professional Football Writers of America. Shalise, her husband and their three children live in Boston David Aldridge (Sports Journalist @The Athletic) David Aldridge is a senior columnist for The Athletic. He has worked for nearly 30 years covering the NBA and other sports for Turner, ESPN, and the Washington Post. In 2016, he received the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Legacy Award from the National Association of Black Journalists. He also covered the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, NBA and NFL, the Stanley Cup playoffs, the World Series, the Indianapolis 500 and the U.S. Open tennis championships.
