Harnessing our offshore energy: opportunities and challenges for Ireland and the EU
Ocean energy is in the news in both Brussels and Ireland. With ambitious plans for offshore wind farms as part of the European Green Deal, interest is focused on the role Ireland can play in reaching renewable energy targets. On next Thursday 6th May, Ciarán Cuffe MEP for Dublin is hosting a webinar on "Harnessing our offshore energy: opportunities and challenges for Ireland and the EU". Confirmed speakers include Eamon Ryan TD , Minister for the Environment, Climate and Communications, Matthieu Ballu, Senior Advisor on Renewables and Energy System Integration Policy with the European Commission, Patricia Comiskey of the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland, Fintan Kelly of Birdwatch Ireland, and Alice Whittaker from Philip Lee Solicitors. Ireland is particularly well-placed to develop ocean energy but it is crucial that concerns around biodiversity, fishing and energy providers are resolved in advance of the large-scale roll-out of offshore wind farms. This webinar will discuss these challenges and will appeal to industry professionals, civil society, students, as well as those seeking employment in the sector.
