Chat with the Expert: Planning for Your Future Part 1: The Importance of Having a Power Of Attorney
This session will explore why it is important for everyone to have a Power of Attorney in place as they age. Without a proper Power of Attorney older New Yorkers may be at risk of homelessness, loss of benefits, and institutionalization. This important document ensures that older New Yorker are able to make their wishes clear, empower their caregivers to act on their behalf, and allow them to live in the community as long as possible. We will also discuss what caregivers can do if no Power of Attorney was put in place before someone loses capacity.

Presenters are Peter Kempner, Esq., Legal Director & Senior Law Project Director at Volunteers of Legal Service, & Alyssa Villareal, Esq., Staff Attorney, Senior Law Project at Volunteers of Legal Service.
