The INFORM Risk Index is a global indicator-based disaster risk assessment tool developed by JRC, which supports humanitarian crisis management decisions. In this work, we, in collaboration with JRC, expand the index to include projected climate change related hazards to generate changes in the index, alongside changes in population, and estimate what level of vulnerability reduction would be required to offset increasing risk. The extended index has been used to identify the remote hotspots affected by climate change for the countries involved in EU external action partnerships. INFORM International partners such as OCHA, FCDO, IFRC and IOM have recognized the benefits of such a tool for horizon scanning and global humanitarian risk monitoring.
H2020 RECEIPT - Remote climate effects and their impacts on European sustainability, Policy and Trade
WP5 International cooperation, development and resilience
RECEIPT aims to provide relevant and quantitative information on the European risks from remote global climatic features using a novel scientific storyline concept that maps representative connections between European socio-economic activities and remote climatic hazards. In WP5, we are assessing how climate variability and change can undermine development progress, competitiveness, stability and resilience of countries with which the EU maintains strategic partnership relations.
