Professor Ioanna Gouni-Berthold is an Internist, Endocrinologist and Head of the Lipid Research Clinic at the Polyclinic for Endocrinology, Diabetes and Preventive Medicine at the University of Cologne, Germany. She received her training at prestigious Universities such as the Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts and the Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas. Prof. Gouni-Berthold has been selected as one of the top experts in Endocrinology and Lipid Disorders in Germany by the acclaimed publication FOCUS GESUNDHEIT and has been repeatedly named as a World Expert in Hyperlipidemia by Expertscape. She is an Executive Board Member of the International Atherosclerosis Society and of the German, Austrian and Swiss Society for the Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases. Her main research interests include lipid and metabolic disorders, lipid-modifying treatments, diabetes and atherosclerosis. She has served as a Steering Committee member of multiple pivotal lipid trials.
Michelle O’Donoghue

Michelle O’Donoghue, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a member of the Cardiovascular Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is a Senior Investigator in the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) Study Group, founded by Dr. Eugene Braunwald. In 2022, she received the inaugural McGillycuddy-Logue Distinguished Chair in women’s cardiovascular health. Dr. O’Donoghue’s primary research focus is the design and conduct of multicenter clinical trials for patients with stable and unstable coronary disease with a focus on the study of women and heart disease. Additional clinical research interests include the evaluation of novel antiplatelet drugs, established and novel biomarkers and the development of novel therapeutics in the management of atherosclerosis and diabetes mellitus.
Handrean Soran
Professor
Professor Handrean Soran is Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist. He has a specialist interest in lipidology, atherosclerosis, cardiovascular risk, parathyroid, calcium and bone metabolism. He provides a tertiary centre service for lipoprotein disorders, as well as calcium and metabolic bone diseases. His research work is focused on cardiovascular risk, lipoproteins properties and functionality, lipoproteins and neuropathy, micro- and macro-vascular complications of diabetes & obesity and the effect of metabolic surgery and pharmacological agents on these complications. Professor Soran is on the editorial board of Atherosclerosis Journal. He authored more than 195 peer reviewed publications and several book chapters.
Robert Hegele

Rob Hegele is a Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Biochemistry at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. He cares for >2500 patients in his lipid clinic. His laboratory discovered the genes that cause >20 human diseases. He was among the first in the world to use five medications that are now routinely prescribed to treat dyslipidemia or diabetes. He has published >880 papers, and is in the top 1% of highly cited scientists in the world. The website Expertscape.com in 2022 ranked him #1 globally in the area of “hypertriglyceridemia”, #2 for “disorders of lipid metabolism” and #3 for “hypercholesterolemia”. He received the 2019 American Heart Association Lyman Duff Award and the 2020 FH Foundation Pioneer Award. He has co‐authored many clinical practice guidelines for cholesterol, blood pressure and diabetes. He has trained numerous physicians, medical students and graduate students.

He is a President of Polish Mother’s Memorial Hospital – Research Institute (PMMHRI) (February 2014-), Head of Cardiovascular Research Centre at University of Zielona Gora, full Professor of Cardiology at the Medical University of Lodz (MUL) and PMMHRI, Head of Foreign Affairs Office (2012-2014), Head of Department of Hypertension (2008-) at the Medical University of Lodz and Professor in the Department of Nephrology, Hypertension and Family Medicine, Chair of Nephrology and Hypertension, at the WAM University Hospital in Lodz, Poland (2009-). He is member of the Executive Committee of European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS) working as an Advisor in Matters related to European Union Relations/Contacts.
