Grapevine scale been an increasing problem in vineyards across Australia since 2011. These insect pests are responsible for issues throughout the growing season, acting as a vector for viruses, causing sooty mould, affecting fruit quality and contributing to overall vine decline. Field data has indicated that several grapevine cultivars are resistant to scale infestation in vineyards, but what is the cause of this resistance? This webinar will discuss how grapevine cultivars differ in their resistance, with the aim of explaining the mechanisms involved. It will also provide an update on how to monitor for scale, general information on scale control and a discussion on the impact of scale in the vineyard.
