Book Launch: Earth Writings: Bogs, Forests, Fields, Gardens
We live in an earth facing ecological crisis, changing weather systems, species extinctions, and global pandemics. How can we repair our collapsing environments? Learn from artists who ‘stay with the trouble’ and make ‘kin in lines of inventive connections’ (Haraway, 2016).
The richly illustrated arts book Earth Writings: Bogs, Forests, Fields, Gardens invites readers to explore how four artists embedded in Irish communities and environments creatively and collaboratively address our earth crises. In addition to reproductions of artists works, the book features a series of short essays and conversations by artists Monica de Bath, Cathy Fitzgerald, Pauline O’Connell and Seoidín O’Sullivan with Irish Studies and Geography scholars Patrick Bresnihan, Nessa Cronin, Gerry Kearns and Karen Till. Introductions by Lucina Russell (Kildare County Council Arts Service) and Karen Till, editor and curator of an exhibition by the same title.
The launch will include short readings and exchanges with the contributing artists and scholars of Earth Writings and be available for online question and answer from the audience. Sponsored by the Dublin Art Book Fair, Moore Institute NUI Galway, Geographical Society of Ireland, and Maynooth Geography.
