Two poets and a shindig
Join Cinnamon Press for an online evening of superb poetry and music via Zoom, with two distinctive poets plus musical interludes from Hollow Log: Blues with a feeling, poetry with a beat. Featuring Richard Marggraf Turley (slide guitar), Dilwyn Roberts- Young (harmonica) and John Barnie (guitar).

Sunglasses is another outstanding collection from John Barnie, The language is precise and accessible, yet each poem always says more than appears on first reading. Rooted in landscape and character, Barnie's poetry shines an uncomfortable light onto issues of ecological degradation, mass extinction and mortality, yet remains lyrical and wry. He shakes a fist at the aging process, at the disappearance of species and the insanities of modern politics and consumerist society, yet there is no note of bitterness. Acerbic? Sometimes. Cold? Never.

The Mallarmé Poems introduces Matthew Jarvis as a vibrant and exciting new voice in Welsh poetry. The author conjures, in poem after poem, a person whos suddenly standing there next to you, breathing down your neck, talking insistently in your ear. Whether the poems subjects are world-weariness or games of cards, the stink of cities or the sound of footsteps, they are always wonderfully engaged with the dance and the party that language can be.

The event will begin at 7.30 p.m. on Friday May 22 and will include a Q&A session with the online audience after the readings.

We're asking you to register so that we can manage the online space and to contribute a small registration fee which you can reclaim with a discount code against book purchases for all attendees.
