As the pathophysiology of mental disorders is immensely complex, this webinar will focus on several mechanisms that have helped throw light on pathways and provide possible tractable therapeutic targets.
Immune-mediated inflammatory diseases have high levels of comorbid psychopathology such as depression. In addition, they present with symptoms, such as fatigue, that cut across diagnostic categories in both physical and mental health. Neural mechanisms of fatigue will be explored.
Similarly, there are now compelling data linking immune mechanisms to depressive illness in those who are otherwise physically well. These mechanisms will be explored using preclinical and clinical data.
An exciting development is a greater understanding of circadian function in disorder such as bipolar. The chronobiology of this will be described.
