Evenings for Educators Lecture: Portraiture, Identity, and Community
From the moment they were unveiled at the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery in February 2018, the museum’s official portraits of President Barack Obama and Mrs. Michelle Obama by Kehinde Wiley and Amy Sherald, respectively, have become iconic. The West Coast stop for the must-see The Obama Portraits Tour, LACMA is also presenting Black American Portraits, an accompanying special exhibition that brings together more than two centuries of portraits of Black Americans.

Join us for a special lecture with Liz Andrews, the executive director of the Spelman College Museum of Fine Art and co-curator of LACMA’s presentation of The Obama Portraits Tour and Black American Portraits, to learn about portraiture’s role in documenting and celebrating Black American identity and community.

Evenings for Educators is an LAUSD Salary Point Course that requires complete attendance at all four programs this school year (October, December, February, April) plus completion of an additional assignment. To verify attendance, you must fill out the post-program surveys.
