Nick Winkelman, PhD is the head of athletic performance & science for the Irish Rugby Football Union, working to deliver strength and conditioning and sport science across all Irish national rugby teams. Previously Nick was Director of Training Systems and Education at EXOS, where he oversaw the training of athletes preparing for the NFL Combine as well athletes within the NFL, MLB, NBA, National Soccer Teams, and Military. In addition to his work as a coach, Nick is a published researcher in the areas of motor learning and cueing in skill development.
Nick will present to SSWSC coaches this fall on how coaches can evaluate and develop the words they use when coaching to get to what works for athlete skill development. The first presentation on November 9 will focus on the science of motor learning and how the language we use affects skill development. During the second session on December 2 Nick will work through real coaching case studies from the SSWSC where coaches are struggling to help an athlete progress with a skill or movement. I am excited to bring in Nick to work with our coaches as we start to transition to on-snow training this early winter and can consider how to apply the concepts to practices immediately.
Monday, November 9 from 10-11:30 AM
Wednesday, December 2 from 10-11:30 AM
