Neuropathies in Children
Neuropathy in childhood may be acquired or genetic, isolated or part of a multisystem disorder. Acquired neuropathies are potentially treatable so important to recognise. Genetic neuropathies may be motor, motor and sensory or sensory. Classification has been confused and confusing, very many neuropathy genes have been identified but the majority of cases are caused by variants in a few genes. The use of a clinical, neurophysiology, genetic framework may aid classification. As yet no disease modifying treatments are available for genetic neuropathy, multidisciplinary team anticipatory care and management of complications are important.
