Trisha Baptie
Community Engagement Coordinator & Founding Member @EVE, Formerly Exploited Voices now Educating
Trisha is a respected expert on sexual exploitation nationally and internationally speaking from her 15 years of sexual exploitation. In 2007, she covered the Robert Pickton trial as an experiential woman, friend to some of Pickton’s victims and as a citizen journalist for an online news magazine. In 2008 she founded EVE, a group to give survivors support and a voice to create change and educate on the realities of prostitution and the sex trade. She has given a TEDx talk, been featured in the National Film Board of Canada’s documentary Buying Sex. In 2014 Trisha was invited to testify and give written submissions at both senate and justice committees on Canada’s prostitution laws that were passed that December. She believes we must shift the conversation and responsibility from the exploited, and instead look at what put them there in the first place and who the benefiters are.
