July is National Savings Month in South Africa. This is a month that is dedicated to savings awareness where we are encouraged to promote debates around saving; raising awareness on the benefits of short, medium and long terms planning; and getting consumers to start on their savings journey.
In South Africa several people use stokvels (and other such financial cooperatives) for short, medium and long-term savings. The Covid-19 pandemic has also made it more important than ever for people to have savings in place for hardships that they are experiencing now and will be experiencing soon.
Stokvel Talk is looking to host a webinar that will target stokvel members that have frequented our national roadshows, as well as younger audiences with an interest in stokvels and financial cooperatives. The webinar will look at how people can use stokvels for short to long term savings; the kinds of banking instruments that stokvels can use to achieve their goals; and it will also dispel a few myths when it comes to stokvels and savings.
