Welcoming new Children in Family Day Care

There is a good chance that many Family Day Care educators will be welcoming new children into their FDC this year, either now, or later in the year. For some of these children, settling in with you and the other children in your care will be easy - for others, perhaps not so easy.

Why is it important that children settle in well for their future learning? What do we know about children and transitions? What about when children communicate with complex behaviour? Why does this occur with a new child during the settling in period?

We will explore these and more in this session, and above all will look at what you can do as a Family Day Care educator to welcome new children well.
