Building Intergenerational Connections through Storytelling

Join filmmaker, Sky Bergman to learn about the power of intergenerational storytelling and how it can improve meaningful engagement for older adults, their families and loved ones. The documentary film “Lives Well Lived” celebrates the incredible wit and wisdom of adults aged 75 to 100. Encompassing over 3000 years of experience, forty people reveal their secrets and insights to living a meaningful life. These men and women share their journey into old age through family histories, personal triumphs, and tragedies, loves and losses - seeing the best and worst of humanity along the way. Their thoughtful perspectives offer life lessons about perseverance, the human spirit, and staying positive during the greatest challenges. Their intimate memories and personal histories will make you laugh, perhaps cry, but mostly inspire. Sky will offer attendees suggestions on how to incorporate intergenerational storytelling into their programming to improve health, wellbeing and satisfaction for older adults, team members and families.

Objectives:
• Develop an awareness of the importance of storytelling in the lives of older adults through the lessons of resilience and inspirational stories featured in the documentary film, "Lives Well Lived."
• Learn simple tips for collecting the stories of older adults, and the power of video over still photography.
• Understand the possibilities of intergenerational connections through shared stories and how best to share these stories as it relates to programming for activity and life enrichment professionals.
