Sustainable Gardening Workshop
Water is a precious resource and a necessary component to having a healthy lawn and a thriving vegetable and flower garden. But the rising cost of water and increased variability of weather, such as drought and severe rainfall, is leading many gardeners and homeowners to look for ways to harvest water naturally and reduce their reliance on city water.

We hope you can join us for this workshop to learn the benefits of stormwater collection and identify ways that you can implement them in your garden. Speakers include Cottage City’s very own Anne Rivera, Master Gardener for the Cottage City Community Garden, and Angela Powell, a permaculturist and environmentalist.

This workshop was made possible by Cottage City Community Garden volunteers and a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust.

By the end of this workshop participants will:
• Recognize sources of stormwater
• Explain the causes of stormwater pollution
• Understand the impact of stormwater runoff on the Chesapeake Bay
• Identify ways to prevent stormwater runoff
• Learn the benefits of stormwater collection in their gardens
• Consider adding rainwater harvesting systems to their gardens
